{"id":68,"date":"2004-05-27T16:00:27","date_gmt":"2004-05-27T23:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thecyberwolfe.com\/blog\/?p=68"},"modified":"2004-05-27T16:00:27","modified_gmt":"2004-05-27T23:00:27","slug":"score-one-for-the-rest-of-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecyberwolfe.com\/blog\/2004\/05\/27\/score-one-for-the-rest-of-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Score one for the rest of us!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The folks over at ITWorld.com write that a <a href=\"http:\/\/security.itworld.com\/4368\/040527buffalospam\/page_1.html\">Buffalo spammer gets 3.5 to 7 years<\/a> not for spamming <em>per se<\/em>, but rather for identity theft when he spoofed two accounts to send out &#8220;more than 800 million spam messages&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This one brings it home to me today, since I noticed several bounced emails in my inbox from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aol.com\" class=\"ubernym uttInitialism\"><acronym class=\"uttInitialism\" title=\"America Online\">AOL<\/acronym><\/a> mail servers. According to the messages, I have tried to send email to a few dead <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aol.com\" class=\"ubernym uttInitialism\"><acronym class=\"uttInitialism\" title=\"America Online\">AOL<\/acronym><\/a> accounts, and they are kindly letting me know that those accounts no longer exist.<\/p>\n<p>Which is right neighborly of them, but I haven&#8217;t sent anything to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aol.com\" class=\"ubernym uttInitialism\"><acronym class=\"uttInitialism\" title=\"America Online\">AOL<\/acronym><\/a> addy in months. Someone is apparently spoofing my comcast email address.<\/p>\n<p>Since there&#8217;s been less than a dozen of these bounces, I&#8217;m more inclined to believe that this is the work of a virus on somebody&#8217;s home computer.
