In a wake-up call for the IM generation, Slashdot<\/a> reports on the new Terms of Service for AOL<\/acronym><\/a>’s Instant Messenger service, AIM<\/acronym><\/a>. To quote from the new document:<\/p>\n

\n‘…by posting Content on an AIM<\/acronym><\/a> Product, you grant AOL<\/acronym><\/a>, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt and promote this Content in any medium. You waive any right to privacy.’\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well now. Isn’t that special.<\/p>\n

In any case, in moment of typical panic reaction to the reminder that AOL<\/acronym><\/a> is truly the Root of All Evil, I have signed up for a Jabber<\/a> account and deleted my AIM<\/acronym><\/a> account. I stll have the Yahoo! account as well, if you don’t want to try Jabber.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, I chose Jabber due to it’s open-source nature, and the fact that both gaim and kopete chat clients support it. I can now be reached at thecyberwolfe(at)jabber.org<\/em><\/b> or thecyberwolfe<\/em><\/b> on Ymessenger.<\/p>\n
